How should I get my hair done?

I really want a new look but I'm not sure what to do with my hair. At the moment it is medium long, which is a few centimeters lower than my shoulders I think, and it is a really boring brown colour which I don't like. It's wavy-straight. I have no layers and what is meant to be a side fringe, but didn't work out too well, which goes down to the bottom of my face.

I would really like to get one of those side fringes that sweep across your forehead and sort of cover one eye. I've been told that I should get my hair cut short, as in shoulder length or shorter, or if I keep it the length it is I should get layers. I'm not sure about what will suit me. I've been told that you have to consider your face shape, and I think mine is a heart or an oval.

I am not allowed to dye my hair due to school rules, but I can get subtle highlights as long as the school doesn't notice.

Please help me out, I really need a new look.

if you want a bold look, go for that short hair bob. its actually quite cute. you first have to know if its good for your face though. if you have a wide forehead and a kinda pointy chin, then youre a heart. if you have a kinda long face with the forehead and the cheeks about the same width, youre a oval (er.. i think thats what the description was.) if youre an oval you can practiacally do any hairstyle. if youre an heart.. not so much. a hair stylist can also figure out what kinda shape of face you are also.

from personal experience what ever u do DO NOT try to cut your own hair haha. I did and thought it looked good but after a while i realized how ugly it was. so my mom took me to get it cut at our salon and i kinda got side bangs which is the thing u want which covers one eye and also layers. it looks really cute....another thing you could do is buy a straightener you can go 2 target and depending on if your hair is wavy or frizzy or easy to straighten you can get a cheaper flat iron. if it is easy then you could probably go cheap. if is not you should go somewhere in the middle of the highest and the lowest price. it will look totally new and make it possible to do many new hairstyles. it will take a little bit of time but if you just want to use it on special occasions or everyday it will come to use! i don't know your hair and so i don't know if you need it straightened but jugding by the fact that you included wavy-straight in your question, i think for a little bit of a new look but not extremely different you could straighten it. if you put it up in a high pony after you straighten it and then straighten or spray the ends with something that keeps them flat it will be a really cute held together pony. a hight pony looks better than a low just as a hint. anyway you might already have a straightener and so my advice might be useless but that is just an idea. unless you have already put it to use
